House OKs Bill To Expedite Hydropower Development

Law360, New York (July 10, 2012, 10:10 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Monday unanimously approved legislation that aims to ease the process for the development of small hydropower and conduit projects, and directs the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to consider a streamlined two-year permitting process.

The House passed the measure, which will now go before the Senate, in a 372-0 vote. The Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act, H.R. 5892, was introduced by Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., and Diana DeGette, D-Colo., both of whom describe the bill as a way to increase the...
