Shell Canada's Carbon-Capture Project Clears Enviro Hurdle

Law360, New York (July 11, 2012, 9:19 PM EDT) -- Alberta's energy regulator signed off Tuesday on a proposal from Royal Dutch Shell PLC's Canadian unit to build a carbon-capture and -storage project north of Edmonton, with conditions for more data collection and reporting at the planned site.

The Energy Resources Conservation Board, a quasi-agency of the provincial government, determined that Shell Canada Ltd.'s proposed Quest carbon-capture system, which the developer says will dispose of more than 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, would serve the public's interest, according to a decision published...
