EU Launches Probe Into North Sea Shrimp Traders

Law360, New York (July 13, 2012, 1:59 PM EDT) -- The European Union's antitrust watchdog lodged formal complaints Friday against four traders of North Sea shrimp, accusing the companies of operating a cartel to fix prices and allocate markets in Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

“We all enjoy a good shrimp cocktail, but whether they are grilled or fried, consumers may feel a bad aftertaste if it turns out that there has been a conspiracy to raise prices,” European Commission spokesman Antoine Colombani told reporters.
