Toy Maker Battat Fined Over Defect In Magnetic Building Sets

Law360, New York (July 16, 2012, 6:37 PM EDT) -- Toy maker Battat Inc. has agreed to pay a $400,000 penalty for failing to notify the Consumer Product Safety Commission immediately when it received reports that its Magnabild Magnetic Building Sets could pose a danger to children, the commission said Monday.

Small magnets inside the building sets, labeled for ages 3 and up, could come loose and be swallowed or aspirated by young children, the commission said. This could be especially dangerous if a child swallowed more than one magnet, which could then attract to each...
