GAO Nudges SEC To Set Conflict Minerals Rule In Stone

Law360, New York (July 16, 2012, 9:37 PM EDT) -- The Government Accountability Office on Monday urged the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to map the moves necessary for it to finalize a controversial disclosure rule for companies using conflict minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo, amid agency delays.

The SEC missed the April 2011 deadline that the Dodd-Frank financial reform set for issuing a final conflict minerals disclosure rule. But in December 2010, it published a proposed rule that would require companies to report to the SEC each year whether they use conflict minerals...
