Samsung To Pay $310M For Chipmaker's Mobile Handset Biz

Law360, New York (July 17, 2012, 1:18 PM EDT) -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. will pony up $310 million for U.K. chip manufacturer CSR PLC's mobile handset connectivity and location development operations and a 21-patent portfolio, giving a boost to its smartphone business and its efforts to command the wider mobile device market, CSR said Tuesday.

Under the proposed terms, CSR will send to the South Korean electronics giant virtually all of its handset technology development, largely related to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices, plus 21 patents and more than 300 employees involved in the operations. The...
