GOP Spurns Chemical Safety Bill Ahead Of Markup

Law360, New York (July 24, 2012, 8:03 PM EDT) -- U.S. Senate Republicans indicated Tuesday they would not support a bill to reform the nation's decades-old safety regulations for chemicals, sapping momentum for the legislation one day before a scheduled markup.

The remarks came during a Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works hearing on S. 847, the Safe Chemicals Act, introduced by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., to update the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976.
