Xcel Wins $116.5M Over Yucca Mountain Delays

Law360, New York (October 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In its lawsuit against the federal government, a court has awarded a subsidiary of Xcel Energy Inc. $116.5 million in damages over the the long-delayed opening of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.

The U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington on Wednesday agreed with Northern States Power Co., a subsidiary of Xcel, that the Department of Energy breached a contract it signed with Xcel in 1983 to accept nuclear waste material for permanent storage by 1998.
