EPA Delays Final Water Cooling Rules Until 2013

Law360, New York (July 24, 2012, 7:11 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday said it will give power plants and factories another year to comply with new Clean Water Act regulations that call for minimizing the impact of water cooling intake systems on the environment, which Republicans have opposed.

“The extension provides the agency ample time to complete its analysis of public comments, data and options prior to finalizing the rule, which EPA hopes to do as expeditiously as possible,” EPA spokeswoman Alisha Johnson said.
