Docs' Push To Limit Painkiller Prescriptions Faces Long Odds

Law360, New York (July 25, 2012, 8:46 PM EDT) -- A physicians group that fights painkiller abuse on Wednesday urged the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to strictly limit how the medicines can be prescribed, but experts say the request's chances of success are slim because of industry opposition and the agency’s deference to doctors.

The citizens petition was submitted by Physicians for Responsible Opioid Prescribing and signed by three dozen clinicians representing an array of specialties, including addiction management, anesthesiology, psychiatry and toxicology.
