Burlington Fined $1.5M Over Recalled Children's Outerwear

Law360, Chicago (July 26, 2012, 4:26 PM EDT) -- Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. will pay a $1.5 million civil penalty to settle allegations by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that it knowingly kept children's garments with neck drawstrings in its store inventories after they'd been recalled, the agency revealed Thursday.

Under the terms of the settlement, the Burlington, N.J.-based clothing retailer denied the commission's allegations that it knowingly violated the law. The agreement also said Burlington is unaware of any incidents or injuries associated with the jackets and sweatshirts at issue.
