Mass. AG Seeks $16M from National Grid Over Storm Outages

Law360, New York (July 26, 2012, 8:22 PM EDT) -- Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced Wednesday that she is seeking more than $16 million in penalties from National Grid PLC over widespread outages caused by the utility’s failure to adequately respond to Tropical Storm Irene in August 2011 and an October 2011 snowstorm.

Coakley said she is seeking penalties from the utility of $4.6 million for its response to Irene and $11.7 million for its response to the 2011 snowstorm, collectively the largest penalty ever recommended against a utility in Massachusetts.
