Greek Shipper Fined $1.2M For Ocean Dumping, Cover-Up

Law360, New York (July 26, 2012, 7:27 PM EDT) -- A Greek shipping firm was sentenced Wednesday in Louisiana federal court to three years' probation and a $1.2 million fine after pleading guilty to illegally discharging oily wastes into the ocean, then covering it up.

U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval Jr. issued the sentence after Odysea Carriers SA of Athens, Greece, pled guilty to obstruction of justice and violating the Ports and Waterways Safety Act and the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships.
