USPTO Sets Rules For Initiating Atty Discipline Under AIA

Law360, New York (July 30, 2012, 3:20 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Monday unveiled final rules outlining how the office will use the expanded statute of limitations granted by the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act for initiating disciplinary actions for attorney misconduct.

Prior to the patent reform law, the USPTO had five years to bring disciplinary action against attorneys or agents "shown to be incompetent or disreputable, or guilty of gross misconduct."
