Dems Push For Increased 'Environmental Justice'

Law360, New York (October 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Democratic legislators are pushing ahead with two new bills aimed at re-strengthening toxic emissions reporting requirements and improving the health of low-income and minority communities.

The first bill, known as the Environmental Justice Act of 2007, would correct alleged deficiencies in the Environmental Protection Agency's environmental justice work by codifying a 1996 executive order. According to EPA studies, minority populations are disproportionately exposed to hazardous waste facilities throughout the United States, but the EPA has not yet analyzed how its programs contribute to that trend....
