Deli Meat Co. Pushes For $33M Judgment In Salmonella Suit

Law360, New York (July 31, 2012, 1:37 PM EDT) -- A specialty food manufacturer on Monday asked a Rhode Island federal judge for a $33 million default judgment against Wholesome Spice and Seasonings Inc. in a salmonella contamination suit, arguing the company lost substantial past and future profits from product recalls linked to the outbreak.

Daniele International Inc. recalled more than 1.2 million pounds of its pepper-coated salami products in 2010 because the meat contained salmonella that could be traced back to black and red pepper sold to Daniele by Wholesome, according to the suit. Extensive...
