Associate Pay Should Hold Steady Despite Scattered Raises

Law360, New York (August 3, 2012, 8:13 PM EDT) -- Though some firms have increased their first-year associate salaries in recent months, experts predicted Friday that market uncertainty and the ongoing fierce competition among new lawyers for positions will keep major firms from jumping to dramatically increase compensation levels.

The 600-attorney Midwest-based firm Husch Blackwell LLP caused a stir Wednesday when it announced it would increase its first-year associate pay in key offices by up to $20,000, but experts said Friday that the boost would not send other firms racing to do the same.
