Senate Confirms Mich. Judge In Contested Vote

Law360, New York (August 2, 2012, 10:38 PM EDT) -- In a close 55-41 vote Thursday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Gershwin A. Drain as a federal judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, despite the objections of Republicans who took issue with statements Drain had made years before regarding gun rights and the death penalty.

Democrats, including Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., hailed Drain and described the need for a judicial appointment in the Eastern District of Michigan as an emergency.
