Sens. Ask CFPB To Address Medical Debt Collection Errors

Law360, New York (August 6, 2012, 3:14 PM EDT) -- Frustrated by congressional inaction, four Democratic senators asked the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Thursday to investigate whether it can aid consumers whose credit scores are damaged by medical debt collections that sometimes stem from payment processing errors.

The inquiry comes on the heels of failed efforts in Congress to exclude medical debt that’s gone into collections but later has been fully paid from credit reports.
