Hospital Group To Suspend Docs' Noncompetes In FTC Deal

Law360, New York (August 6, 2012, 9:01 PM EDT) -- Nevada hospital network Renown Health, whose recent acquisitions allegedly gave it overwhelming control of cardiology services in Reno, will free doctors from noncompete clauses in their contracts to settle a Federal Trade Commission complaint, the agency said Monday.

According to the FTC, Renown’s purchase of two medical groups since 2010, along with contract provisions barring doctors from joining competing practices, resulted in the company having nearly 90 percent of Reno-area cardiologists on its payroll.
