Energy Co. Fined For Poor Chemicals, Waste Storage

Law360, New York (October 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Energy Northwest has been fined $120,000 for improperly labeling and storing hazardous waste and chemicals and committing other violations at two sites in Washington.

“The improper storage of these hazardous materials is a serious violation,” Jane Hedges, nuclear waste program manager at the Washington State Department of Ecology, said Thursday. “The unacceptable training of employees, the lack of reporting of spills of dangerous substances into the environment and the improper storage of waste escalated our concerns about lack of management and safety oversight at Energy Northwest.”...
