DOE To Fine Bechtel Over Nuclear Safety Violations

Law360, New York (October 8, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Department of Energy announced on Friday that it intends to fine contractor Bechtel National Inc. $165,000 for violating nuclear safety requirements in the construction of a waste treatment plant located at the Hanford nuclear reservation in south-central Washington.

The fine, according to a statement released by the DOE, is for a series of violations that occurred between October 2001 and February 2006, including failures in quality processes to control design changes and a failure to ensure that vendor-supplied equipment met nuclear safety specifications.
