EPO To Continue Granting Patents For Software Inventions

Law360, New York (July 12, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Patent Office has vowed to continue to grant patents for software inventions, despite the failure last week of a proposal that would have harmonized patent law across the European Union.

Last Wednesday, the European Parliament rejected a proposed law to harmonize software patenting across the European Union, effectively killing off a five-year project that had pitted the European Commission against Strasbourg legislators.
