Drug, Device Makers Push For Final Physician Payment Rule

Law360, New York (August 14, 2012, 6:11 PM EDT) -- The drug, medical device and biotech industries on Tuesday urged the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to publish a final physician payment sunshine rule “promptly,” saying they need time to prepare if they're going to start collecting data in January.

The rule, which will require pharmaceutical and device companies to publicly report most of the gifts and payments they make to physicians, is already far overdue based on the deadlines laid out in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
