Australian Supplier Yanks Chinese Cars Over Asbestos Fears

Law360, Chicago (August 15, 2012, 7:17 PM EDT) -- An Australian car supplier has recalled roughly 23,000 vehicles from Chinese automakers Great Wall Motors Co. Ltd. and Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. following an investigation that revealed engine and exhaust gaskets containing asbestos, an Australian consumer watchdog announced Wednesday.

Auto supplier Ateco Automotive Pty. Ltd. has already told all Chery and Great Wall dealers to stop selling the affected vehicles, recalled any gaskets that were distributed as spare parts, and worked to ensure that all newly supplied cars and replacement gaskets are free of asbestos, according...
