Syngenta Hit With Patent Suit Over Ethanol Corn

Law360, New York (August 16, 2012, 1:16 PM EDT) -- A nonprofit group affiliated with the University of Nebraska on Wednesday sued a Syngenta AG unit in Nebraska federal court, accusing the agricultural products company of patent infringement over genetically engineered corn seeds used to produce ethanol. 

NUtech Ventures — a nonprofit that facilitates partnerships between University of Nebraska researchers and private industry to develop new products or solve research problems — said in its complaint that using Syngenta Seeds Inc.’s Enogen, a genetically engineered corn seed product, to make ethanol infringes NUtech’s U.S. Patent Number 6,506,592.
