Cabot Settles Fracking Pollution Claims From Pa. Residents

Law360, New York (August 16, 2012, 4:34 PM EDT) -- Residents of a Pennsylvania town who say they were exposed to environmental contamination from the fracking operations of Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. have agreed to a confidential settlement with the Houston-based energy company, according to an uncontested settlement motion filed Monday.

The agreement resolves a contentious dispute that began in 2009, when 62 residents of Dimock, Pa., sued Cabot, claiming that while using hydraulic fracturing to drill for gas in the area the company contaminated their water supply with methane gas and other toxic chemicals, sickening residents who relied on well water, according to their complaint.
