Honeywell Loses Patent Suit Against UTC Unit Over Aircraft Technology

Law360, New York (July 14, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Honeywell International Inc. has lost a lawsuit seeking $35 million after a jury rejected claims that rival United Technologies Corp. unit infringed a patent on starting turbine engines.

The jury, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, ruled this week that the patent was invalid.

Honeywell’s lawsuit, filed against Hamilton Sundstrand Corp. in 2003, asserted that the UTC subsidiary infringed a patented system for starting an aircraft's auxiliary power unit.
