USPTO Rejects "Dykes On Bikes" Trademark As Offensive

Law360 (July 14, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- “Dykes On Bikes” is too offensive for a trademark, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has ruled in denying a mark for San Francisco’s nonprofit lesbian motorcycle group.

The group, known for riding in the lead position at San Francisco's gay pride parade every year for nearly three decades, has spent two years fruitlessly trying to obtain a federal trademark, its president, Vic Germany, told the San Francisco Chronicle.
