DOE Blasts FERC For Allowing Fine Against Federal Gov't

Law360, New York (August 17, 2012, 4:58 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Energy Department on Friday lambasted the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for allowing a nonprofit industry group overseeing the nation’s electric grids to fine the federal government, calling for the “extraordinary” decision to be rescinded.

In its request for rehearing of the matter, the DOE takes aim at a July ruling in which FERC upheld a $19,500 penalty levied by the North American Electric Reliability Corp., which is tasked with ensuring stability in the nation’s power supply.
