Power Co. Sues City, Railroads In $40M Superfund Cleanup

Law360, New York (August 20, 2012, 2:49 PM EDT) -- Northern States Power Co. on Friday sued two railroad companies and the city of Ashland, Wis., in an effort to get help covering the $40 million needed to clean up the Ashland Lakefront Superfund site on Lake Superior.

The power company entered into a consent decree with the federal government earlier this month under which it will design, construct and implement the cleanup plan for the on-land portion of the site, but in its Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act suit it says it shouldn’t...
