DuPont Shells Out For Spelter Smelter's Neighbors

Law360, New York (October 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A jury ordered DuPont on Wednesday to foot the bills for Spelter, W. Va., residents’ medical monitoring in the wake of last week's finding that the chemical behemoth was negligent in its treatment of a contaminated 112-acre waste site there.

In reaching its decision, the jury sided with arguments that because the site contained hazardous and carcinogenic metals like arsenic, cadmium and lead, routine health screenings were needed.
