Judge OKs Joint Trial For Pa. High Court Justice, Sister

Law360, Philadelphia (August 24, 2012, 3:25 PM EDT) -- Suspended Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin will face trial on corruption charges alongside her sister after a state judge on Thursday ordered the two cases to be combined.

Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Manning agreed to combine the cases, in which Justice Melvin and Janine Orie are accused of orchestrating and engaging in an illegal scheme to use the justice’s court staff to conduct political work, ruling that the charges against each were similar enough to warrant joinder.
