Schumer Cites Report In Push For Chemical Regulation Bill

Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., backed a report from a public health group on Sunday that found some children's school supplies contain toxic phthalates, using the findings to push for a bill aimed at reforming the nation's safety regulations for chemicals.

Three of every four school supplies tested by the Center for Health, Environment & Justice, including backpacks, vinyl lunchboxes and three-ring binders, had elevated levels of the chemicals, according to the report.
