European Biotech Industry Laments Retreat From E.U.-Wide Patent System

Law360 (July 20, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Europe’s biotech industry is bitterly disappointed with the European Commission’s decision to throw in the towel in its efforts to create a European-wide system for biotech patenting.

EuropaBio, the European association for bioindustries, said it was “disappointed” that the European Union’s executive body had not taken a “firmer stand” on harmonizing rules for patenting human DNA sequences across EU member states in its second report on the EU Biotechnology Patents Directive.
