Guidant Wins Ruling Against Medtronic In Royalties Dispute

Law360 (July 20, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a setback for medical device maker Medtronic, Inc., Guidant Corp. won a ruling by a Delaware federal court that upholds the validity of a patent at the center of a royalty dispute between the two companies.

U.S. District Judge Sue Robinson upheld the validity of the patent, which relates to cardiac resynchronization therapy and bi-ventricular pacing therapy.

Medtronic had sued the company in 2003, challenging its obligation to pay royalties to the Mirowski family by filing suit to have the patent declared invalid.
