Shell Gets Permit For Preliminary Drilling Off Alaska Coast

Law360, Philadelphia (August 30, 2012, 6:39 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior has issued Shell Gulf of Mexico Inc. a permit to begin preparatory activities for drilling in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Thursday.

The permit, granted by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, will allow Shell to install predrilling infrastructure in the sea before the U.S. Coast Guard gives final approval of its containment system.
