La. Issues Insurance Rule To Help Isaac Victims

Law360, New York (September 4, 2012, 9:43 PM EDT) -- Louisiana's insurance commissioner said Tuesday he has issued an emergency rule that would help Hurricane Isaac's victims by barring insurers from canceling policies because of an Isaac-related claim and by easing health insurers' restrictions on receiving medical care from out-of-network providers.

The emergency rule is similar to those passed by the state insurance department following Hurricane Gustav in 2008. It gives policyholders until Sept. 25 to pay insurance premiums due after Aug. 26 without late fees, penalties, cancellation or non-renewal of policies. Insurers also cannot cancel...
