Parents Say Wyeth's Effexor Caused Birth Defects

Law360, Philadelphia (September 4, 2012, 3:19 PM EDT) -- Two sets of Texas parents hit Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc. with product liability suits Friday over its depression and anxiety drug Effexor in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas, contending that the mothers' use of the drug during pregnancy caused birth defects.

The suits contend that the drug manufacturer, a unit of Pfizer Inc., hid information from consumers on the defects associated with the use of the popular anti-depressant during pregnancy.
