EU Probes Gazprom Over Antitrust Violations

Law360, New York (September 4, 2012, 6:02 PM EDT) -- The European Commission announced Tuesday it has launched a probe into whether Russian natural gas giant Gazprom OAO is stifling competition in central and eastern European gas markets, as well as trade among them, following a surprise EC inspection of the company last year.

According to an EC press release, the commission is investigating whether Gazprom has abused a “dominant market position” in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia.
