NiSource, Shippers Ink $4.5B Deal On Pipeline Upgrades

Law360, New York (September 5, 2012, 4:16 PM EDT) -- NiSource Inc. on Tuesday handed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission a far-reaching settlement with several dozen natural gas shippers that calls for up to $4.5 billion in pipeline upgrades the company says will boost reliability and reduce emissions along a 12,000-mile network.

The deal, which was brokered to resolve differences without resorting to litigation, provides that $1.5 billion in investment will take place over the next five years, and twice as much could be spent over an additional decade if provisions are exercised to extend work....
