Hospital Group Seeks Medicare Reimbursement Policy Changes

Law360, New York (September 5, 2012, 10:06 PM EDT) -- The Federation of American Hospitals called Tuesday for an overhaul of Medicare reimbursement practices surrounding inpatient admissions and outpatient treatment, saying that care is being compromised because hospitals lack clear guidance on when longer-term stays are justified and will result in payment.

The remarks, contained in a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, were delivered in response to agency requests for input amid rising rates of outpatient observation and hospitals' continued displeasure with denial of inpatient billing claims.
