Real Estate Tops Legal Malpractice Claims, ABA Reports

Law360, New York (September 6, 2012, 5:35 PM EDT) -- Issues arising from real estate transactions are the top subject of malpractice claims against attorneys for the first time in nearly 30 years, surpassing personal injury and family law-related claims, according to a study released Thursday by the American Bar Association.

For the period between 2008 and 2011, clients brought 10,772 malpractice suits against attorneys over the handling of real estate transactions, making up 20.3 percent of all malpractice claims and marking a 0.28 percent jump from the amount filed during the previous four years, according...
