Schumer Urges CPSC To Get Tough On Detergent Gel Pods

Law360, New York (September 10, 2012, 8:31 PM EDT) -- Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., asked the chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Monday to require child safety caps for dishwashing and laundry detergent gel pods, pointing to the thousands of children that have been poisoned by the products.

Schumer said in a letter to CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum that the pods, introduced in the U.S. market from Europe earlier this year, are small and produced in bright colors, leading children to believe they are candy.
