6 Federal Courthouses To Close In Cost-Cutting Measure

Law360, New York (September 11, 2012, 6:43 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Judicial Conference will close six federal courthouses in Southern states including Mississippi and Texas to save $1 million in rent payments as it braces for more than $500 million in cuts to the judiciary's budget from the Deficit Reduction Act, the federal judiciary said Tuesday.  

The cuts will affect nonresident federal court facilities in Wilkesboro, N.C.; Beaufort, S.C.; Meridian, Miss.; Amarillo, Texas; Pikeville, Ky.; and Gadsden, Ala.; a move reflecting both the judiciary's eight-year-long cost-cutting efforts and sequestration, a series of $1 trillion across-the-board...
