Canadian Antitrust Watchdog Hits Waste Co. Over M&A Breach

Law360, New York (September 12, 2012, 7:54 PM EDT) -- Canada's Competition Bureau announced Tuesday it had brought charges in an Ontario court against Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. for allegedly breaching a consent agreement meant to allay concerns that a 2010 merger would stifle competition for waste collection services. 

The antitrust watchdog said it had “laid charges” against Progressive Waste and its subsidiary BFI Canada Inc. in Ontario Provincial Court in Newmarket, Ontario, for breaching an agreement addressing worries that the merger that formed Progressive would lessen or prevent competition in the supply of commercial waste...
