USPTO To Revamp Reexamination Process

Law360, New York (August 1, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office plans to launch a new reexamination office as part of an effort to improve decision-making quality and shave off excess time spent completing reviews, the agency said.

The new office will employ 20 senior patent examiners at its new headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, who have experience across all industries and will review each reexamination case. The Central Reexamination Unit was established in July after a six-month planning period.
