Bengay, Other Pain Relievers Can Cause Burns, FDA Says

Law360, New York (September 13, 2012, 6:40 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned consumers Thursday that Johnson & Johnson's Bengay and other over-the-counter topical pain relievers have caused severe chemical burns and other skin injuries.

The agency has discovered 43 reports of burns linked to the use of topical muscle and joint pain relievers. It named Bengay; Icy Hot, made by Sanofi SA unit Chattem Inc.; and Mentholatum, made by the Mentholatum Co., as some of the products that have caused the burns.
