FDA Expands Warning Over Liquid Gel Linked To Baby Deaths

Law360, New York (September 18, 2012, 7:24 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday widened the scope of its warning about feeding a liquid-thickening gel to infants, claiming the product may cause a life-threatening condition in all babies, not just premature ones as the agency initially claimed.

The updated FDA warning cautions parents, caregivers and health care providers to weigh the risks in feeding SimplyThick to infants of any age because it might cause necrotizing enterocolitis, a condition that inflames and kills intestinal tissue.
