FERC Won't Block Republican-Backed Hydropower Bill

Law360, New York (September 19, 2012, 5:44 PM EDT) -- A top lawyer at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission told Congress on Wednesday that FERC wouldn't oppose Republican-backed legislation to bar it from collecting fees from hydropower projects on lands the federal government previously owned.

John Katz, FERC's deputy associate general counsel for energy projects, told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee that the commission staff would take no position on the bill, S. 3265, saying it wouldn't interfere with FERC responsibilities.
